Interested in becoming a mentor for a young adult who experiences disability?
What is Dream Builders Alliance?
Dream Builders Alliance is a partnership project to ensure that full and complete transition to adulthood occurs, with a primary focus on self-determination and goal fulfillment. Dream Builders Alliance helps youth and young adults with a range of disabilities set employment goals, explore post secondary education options, and make plans for living the life they want to live.
What does being a Mentor look like?
Mentors provide a fun and safe learning environment for young adult participants that build towards developing goals and vocational skills while exploring personal interests. Activities range from meeting in the community to discuss life dreams and goals, to practicing applicable skills. This could include riding public transit, building networking skills, going out for lunch, attending college classes, or arranging informational interviews. Each activity is geared to the participant's skills and interests.
Mentors will meet with their young adult participant match for 3-5 hours a week in the community for a minimum of 6 months.
All travel and activity expenses are reimbursed on a monthly basis.
Dream Builders Alliance provides a $100 stipend for each mentor following active participation and completion of the cohort.
We invite you to join us on a journey to a bright future for young adults, one led and envisioned by the participants. We are here to ensure success!
