Job Description

POSITION REPORTS TO:     Assistant Director, Professional Development, Wolf Trap Institute
POSITION MANAGES:          None
POSITON LOCATION:           Hybrid - will require days onsite and allow telework

 

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts seeks an Early Childhood/Arts Specialist to manage professional development programs and activities of the Wolf Trap Institute.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Investigate and report on trends, best practices, research, and initiatives in early childhood, professional development, and arts education and make connections with Wolf Trap Institute’s work.
  • Develop, facilitate, and support in person and virtual professional development offerings, learning content, and resources for teaching artists. 
  • Develop content for and support professional development and family workshops and thought leadership events.
  • Provide content and information to inform the creation of digital resources including social media, publications, articles, blogs, web copy, etc. in partnership with Assistant Director, Education Communication and Strategy and Institute team members.
  • Recruit and train new teaching artists, with a focus on attracting a diverse community of multilingual teaching artists through outreach to community partners in new and current service areas.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual classroom observations, and review lesson plans for content, scaffolding, and curriculum standards, and provide feedback to team members and teaching artists.
  • Develop local and national conference program proposals in collaboration with National & Affiliate Services team.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Represent Wolf Trap Foundation in education/arts education task forces and at conferences and meetings with multiple stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.    
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education or related field, Master’s Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in the field of early care and education, child development, or early elementary education
  • Experience with professional development programs and/or adult learners preferred
  • Experience in the performing arts/arts education highly recommended 
  • Experience with family-centered and community based services recommended

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs; including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively across teams in problem solving and developing and implementing positive solutions to meet department/program goals
  • Excellent time management skills, with evidence of overseeing, prioritizing, and executing multiple deadlines on a regular basis
  • Fluency in written and oral Spanish a plus
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the mission of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 60% of the time
  • Regularly operates a computer and other office equipment (calculator, scanner, copier, printer, etc.)
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and reach with arms
  • Lift/move up to 25 pounds infrequently
