Under general supervision of the Sales Manager this person assists all customers, completing sales from start to finish. Is courteous, helpful, respectful and honest. This person will also participate in cleaning, merchandising, preparing merchandise for sale as well as some data entry and inventory management.
Hours are Wednesday through Sunday 10am - 6:30pm
Provides excellent customer service, communicates all of the customer benefits and sells the merchandise, going the extra mile to build relationships with customers and this nonprofit
Deepens our customers’ understanding of the non-profit mission
Maintains the look of the store and merchandises inventory including giving input on furniture selections and merchandising our ever changing outside display and window display at night
Clean the store, price tag, clean and prep the merchandise
Ring up sales, schedule deliveries, file paperwork and organize customers to join our mailing list or sign up to volunteer
Communicate with customers via email, and other online outlets
Always interact with customers positively, addressing any issues honestly and pulling together the team whenever needed to solve issues in the best way
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
Agreement with the mission statement and policies of APEDF. Knowledgeable about Uhuru Movement programs and institutions. Passionate about social justice and economic development for the African community. Sales and customer service experience. Skill in oral communications in both one-on-one and group situations. Ability to lead and also take direction from supervisors. Skill in handling customer disagreements. Skill in use of computers, email and google spreadsheets. Clerical skills. Skill in written communications.
Physical stamina to sit, walk and stand throughout the day. Hearing and English speaking abilities.
Qualifications: High School diploma or the equivalent. 1 year of retail sales and clerical experience.
