We are looking for an experienced Legal Advocate to join our Home Preservation team in the Orange County.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Minimum associate degree, Bachelor’s in a related field strongly preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience
  • Valid driver’s license and/or access to alternative means of transportation
Additional Qualifications

ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the direction of the Managing Director OC Regional Office, the Legal Advocate is responsible for providing assistance in homelessness prevention including eviction defense assistance, housing and discrimination issues and community education that expands access to justice for low-income limited English-speaking immigrants.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

65% Legal Support and Client Assistance 

  • Assess legal matters, complete intake screening process, consult with Advancing Justice - LA attorneys and provide in-language counsel and advice over the phone for housing, and other legal issues 
  • Provide brief services including drafting letters, applications and legal pleadings to the clients under the supervision of attorney 
  • Provide client accompaniment to administrative, and court hearings and preparing for hearings under the supervision of attorney 

20% Community Outreach

  • Support collaboration with community partner organizations through referrals and service coordination  
  • Assist in the planning and execution of outreach activities to the community, including meeting with media and community-based organizations 
  • Assist in the development and translation of written community outreach andeducation materials. 
  • Provide language support such as interpretation and translation to attorneys in eviction and housing issues 

15% Administrative Support

  • Perform administrative duties including but not limited to inputting intakes into centralized database and filing closed intakes 
  • All other duties as assigned
