POSITION SUMMARY:

The Marketing Coordinator will assist with brand advertising, email campaigns, and other marketing initiatives across the Brand Marketing, NightLife, and Sales teams to support brand awareness, drive visitation and sales, and help achieve revenue goals. This position will support different sectors of the marketing team and contribute to the Academy’s mission to regenerate the natural world by engaging the public and inviting guests to discover world-class exhibits, events, and experiences. This position is full time and reports to the Marketing Manager.

The position is a hybrid of on-site/work from home in California and can change as business needs warrant. The candidate must easily be able to work onsite at the Academy located in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco when needed. Candidates are required to have up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination, including receiving a booster shot, absent qualifying exemptions in accordance with applicable laws. Individuals receiving a conditional offer of employment from the California Academy of Sciences will be provided the full text of the vaccination policy.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support marketing initiatives across the Brand Marketing, Sales and NightLife teams in the key areas outlined below.

Advertising and Promotions:

  • Assist in the creative development and production process of advertising materials such as TV, radio, print, and digital ads by coordinating meetings with the advertising agency, internal marketing team and key stakeholders; gathering information and assets such as photos, video, and copy points; fact-checking ads with scientists and other experts; preparing internal presentations.
  • Provide suggestions for content for social media posts, coordinate between internal product leads and in house social media specialists, and share post-campaign reports and recommendations
  • Coordinate the creation of sales and marketing collateral such as signage (printed and digital), catering guides, promo cards, menus, etc, sometimes working with in-house design team and sometimes creating/updating materials independently
  • Conduct benchmarking research for sales products and recommend and execute new marketing tactics for various products and experiences such as Birthday Parties, sleepovers, event rentals, and tours
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to promote the Academy’s affordable access programs, and help expand and optimize program by conducting research on new opportunities to reach qualified audiences

Email Marketing:

  • Execute outbound email marketing campaigns for various audiences, which includes: maintaining editorial calendars for recurring email campaigns, gathering campaign requirements, submitting requests to email team, writing/editing email copy, sourcing/resizing images, coordinating stakeholder review and approval process, monitoring performance and sharing results
  • Develop and send visitor surveys for products such as tours, sleepovers and family nights, and report on results

Content Management:

  • Keep website content up to date for NightLife and other products/experiences managed by the Sales team, including writing/editing copy and sourcing images
  • Create updated web content periodically for third party partner websites, such as Travel Industry Sales partners, to showcase new exhibits and experiences

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience working on a Marketing, Advertising, or Communications team
  • Office/administration experience
  • Experience writing and editing promotional copy for public audiences required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Fundamental understanding of Marketing & Communications practices; desire to learn and grow within a marketing team, and interest in keeping abreast of trends in marketing & advertising
  • Experience developing content for email marketing campaigns
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit concise and effective promotional copy tailored to specific audiences
  • Detail-oriented, and able to manage deadlines while working on multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously
  • Excellent problem solving, project management, and organizational skills
  • Willingness to request and incorporate feedback and learn new skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Basic analytical skills and ability to use data to measure results; experience creating marketing reports is a plus
  • Proficient in Google suite; familiarity with Adobe creative suite is a plus; familiarity with Google analytics is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, use a computer, and communicate on the phone, in person, and online meetings/calls. Must be able to perform repetitive motions 80% of the time. This position requires moving throughout indoor and outdoor museum spaces during daylight and occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.
