Community Legal Aid (CLA), the legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income and elderly residents of central and western Massachusetts, seeks a temporary staff attorney to work for a one-year period in its Worcester office on a project designed to help victims of crime with a wide variety of civil legal matters, including domestic relations issues; access to housing, benefits, school-based services, and health insurance programs; and elder abuse. The position is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance to provide holistic services to victims of crime. In addition to representing individual clients, the attorney will engage in community outreach and education, and will work closely with community partners. Some grant-reporting activities are required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Mass. Bar, or eligible to sit for next Mass. Bar examination, or entitled to practice under SJC Rule 3:04. Fluency in Spanish and prior experience in poverty law preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a collaborative setting are important.
