Greenpeace is a global, independent campaigning organization that uses peaceful protest and creative communication to expose global environmental problems and promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future. For over fifty years, Greenpeace has fought to save the planet from the threat of global warming, destruction of ancient forests, deterioration of our oceans, and the threat of a nuclear disaster loomed large. As an independent organization, Greenpeace does not accept funds from any corporations or government entities. Greenpeace is headquartered in the Netherlands, with offices all around the world in over fifty countries.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Greenpeace believes that a healthy democracy is a precondition for a healthy environment. Our democracy should be our best tool to advance climate solutions, ensure environmental equity and hold corporations accountable, but it has been hijacked by the corrupting influence of dark money in our political system. A rash of recent anti-voter measures in too many states are designed to make it harder for people, especially the BIPOC to exercise their freedom to vote. And a new wave of anti-protest legislation seeks to shrink democratic space, deny the right to protest, and silence the dissent that makes a democracy thrive.
Greenpeace is hiring a campaigner for the Democracy Team to join as a Democracy Campaigner or a Senior Democracy Campaigner to work with our supporters across the country and with allies within the movement to protect our democracy, focusing on issues that intersect with Greenpeace campaigns. The Campaigners will work with our Research, Communications, Engagement, Campaign and Legal teams to expose and combat money in politics, defend and expand voter participation, and protect the right to non violent protest to advance a more just and greener future for all.
The Democracy Campaigner will use their creative communications, campaigning and digital organizing skills to inform and engage Greenpeace supporters on issues of democracy, and work in coalition with allies in the environmental, labor, civil rights and other movement sectors to advance our shared democracy goals.
