The Assistant Director of Institutional Giving is a new position within the Development Department at Martha’s Table and will be responsible for the full cycle of fundraising strategy and activities to drive institutional giving from corporate, foundation, community-based, and government entities. The Assistant Director of Institutional Giving will report to the Director of Development and manage the Institutional Giving Officer and Development Writer. This position will personally steward a portfolio of donors at $25,000 level and above and has a particular focus on developing our corporate giving program through the management of the Leadership Council (our corporate advisory committee) and on growing our revenue streams from government sources.
Manage the organization’s institutional giving pipeline from prospect research and identification through donor stewardship, with a strategic focus on a portfolio of corporate, foundation, community-based, and government donors at the $25,000 level and above.
Supervise the Institutional Giving Officer in their management of a portfolio of corporate, foundation, community-based, and government donors at the $2,500 level and above.
Supervise the Development Writer, who works cross-departmentally to draft and coordinate compelling proposals, reports, and stewardship pieces for both major individual and institutional donors and prospects.
Builds out research efforts to proactively identify and pursue appropriate opportunities for government funding from local and national entities.
Manages the Leadership Council, a volunteer advisory committee of current and former Washington business leaders, to develop and implement strategies to expand our network of local and national corporate partners.
Collaborates closely with the Finance team, Program Directors, and the Evaluation team to develop and implement standard operating procedures for the management of restricted grants, including spending against allotted grant budgets, applying expenditures against grant budgets, and tracking program metrics against grant performance targets.
Reports on institutional partnerships to the Director of Development on a regular basis; tracks and maintains records of donor actions and contacts in the development database; and conducts ongoing analysis to track performance and deliverables.
Strategically works cross-organizationally to build out engagement opportunities for institutional partners through volunteerism, special events, site visits, marketing efforts, and other means.
Attends and provides support for the success of various development and community events; serves as a representative of Martha’s Table.
Meets or exceeds annual revenue goals for foundation, corporate, government, community-based, and special event sponsorship budget lines, totaling approximately $1.5M per year.
Knowledge and Skills:
Have at least four (4) years of experience in a nonprofit fundraising environment, preferably in corporate or government fundraising
Extensive experience in relationship management with major or institutional donors, including face-to-face solicitation
Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
Strong analytical and financial analysis ability
Ability to lead and influence others
High level of sensitivity and discretion
Strong project management and organizational skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities
Experience with complex databases
Research experience; experience using iWave, Guidestar, Foundation Directory Online, and other similar resources highly desired
Ability to develop skills of other staff and contribute to Martha’s Table’s leadership development priorities
Strong understanding of and enthusiasm for Martha’s Table’s mission and programs and the ability to convey these effectively to donors
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent work experience
