  Job Description

National nonprofit seeks a highly motivated development professional to support all aspects of resource development and fundraising activities for the organization. The successful candidate will have experience with donor data management platforms, proven success in solicitation and relationship building with funders, deep knowledge of fundraising best practices, strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.


Key responsibilities:


The Development Manager supports a wide variety of activities related to the organization’s development effort and is an integral member of the development team. The Development Manager drafts correspondence, including gift acknowledgments, letters of inquiry, interim/final progress reports for funders, and stewardship pieces; maintains donor records (hard and electronic); conducts prospect research and prepares donor briefings; responds to donor inquiries; and helps with small-scale event planning, execution, and follow-up. The Development Manager will work closely with the Vice President of Development and Development Committee to sustain and grow contributed support from individuals, foundations and corporations. He/She is expected to meet with prospective donors and existing supporters on a continual basis to establish and grow relationships. He/She also collaborates closely with the Marketing and Communications department to update the development sections of the organization’s website and prepare donor-specific content for online/print publications and digital appeals. Limited travel is required (less than 10% of time). 




The ability to establish priorities and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated record of successful follow-through on tasks and goals. Significant writing experience, including building messaging for solicitations, letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations, foundations and reports. General familiarity working in communications platforms and data management databases, with a willingness to learn new technologies as needed.  Demonstrated ability to build and grow relationships with donors and prospective partners. Desire to work as part of a team and collaborative across the organization’s departments. 




Two or more years of fundraising experience




Bachelor’s degree
