The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) seeks a Grant Writer and Research Officer to join our fast-growing and dynamic fundraising staff. This creative and ambitious team works to increase and expand the philanthropic partnerships that make WOLA’s human rights advocacy possible. We are looking for someone passionate about social change who understands the value and strategic function of fundraising in creating that change. The Officer will be an extraordinary writer who has several years of professional writing experience and has a passion for human rights and social justice. This individual must be an exceptional and ambitious writer, an analytical thinker, and a highly-motivated team player.

WOLA’s office has a paid staff of twenty-four, plus seven interns and seven senior fellows.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Draft concept notes, proposals, reports, engagement content, appeals, and donor communications to support the entire philanthropy team.
  2. Identify and research new foundation, corporate, third-country government, and individual prospects. (WOLA does not accept funding from the U.S. government.)
  3. Accurately and confidently represent WOLA’s programming to institutional audiences.
  4. Provide grant management support, including internal processing of grants, deliverables, and incoming payments; tracking deadlines and external interactions; and maintaining paper files on grants.
  5. Assist in the management of WOLA’s donor database, helping to input accurate data, create connections, and generate reports.
  6. Staff the Senior Partnerships Manager.

Qualifications:

  1. A demonstrated commitment to and interest in human rights and social justice.
  2. Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years relevant work experience.
  3. Exceptional writing and editing skills (in English) required.
  4. Experience in grant writing and project management. A proven ability to write successful foundation grants preferred.
  5. Strong research abilities and familiarity with foundation research tools highly desired.
  6. Superior interpersonal skills and an ability to cultivate effective relationships with philanthropy staff as well as work collaboratively with WOLA staff.
  7. Experience with fundraising contact management systems desirable.
  8. Interest in international public policy, particularly in Latin America, and non-profit management is a plus.
  9. Extreme attention to detail and an ability to maintain organized and accurate records and work well under deadlines.
  10. Problem solving skills, critical thinking, and troubleshooting abilities.
  11. High level of maturity and ability to act as a team player.
  12. Fluency in English, Spanish highly preferred.

Salary: $49,000, Full health, dental, vision, and life insurance 100% employer paid.
