Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION

Internews will support the FHI 360 Civil Society and Media Activity in the development and implementation of a set of activities to advance citizen understanding and engagement, strengthen evidence-based advocacy and improve organizational capacity of traditional and non-traditional actors. The Media Grants Officer will support all media components including media capacity building and contributing to strategic communication activities. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Sub-grants and consultants’ management

  • Manages sub-grants throughout the lifecycle of the project; reviews narrative and financial reports, organizes sub-grants close out. In cooperation with Project Director and Media Specialist Advisor helps potential sub-grantees to develop and refine project proposals and budgets;
  • Monitors sub-grantees to ensure the implementation of their sub-grants is in line with sub-grant agreements; highlights major implementation issues to Project Director and Media Specialist Advisor;
  • Contributes to prime and Internews’ internal project narrative;
  • Prepares and conducts inductions and trainings to partners on grant management and compliance. Carries out field visits and calls as necessary;
  • Leads on process of due-diligence in preparation for sub-granting to local partners. Prepares partnership, sub-granting agreements, making sure that they comply with Internews' and donor requirements;
  • Builds grant-management capacities of local partners;
  • Files and archives project documentation with Internews Network HQ;

Logistical support

  • Provides logistical support for the organization of events in Honduras;
  • Makes travel arrangements for project staff and consultants as required for their participation in project events;

Procurement of services, budget management and compliance monitoring

  • Organizes procurement of services, manages, files and archives procurement records;
  • Compiles, reviews and reconciles corporate credit card monthly reports;
  • Develops budget spending projections in cooperation with Project Director and the Media Specialist Advisor;
  • Regularly reviews grant management schedules to ensure timely submission of prime deliverables; and reports;
  • Provides training and guidance to sub-grantees and consultants on organizational and donor compliance as required. Seeks Media Specialist and Training Specialist advice when necessary;
  • Provides briefings to sub-grantees on contractual donor requirements; provides advice to project sub-grantees and beneficiaries on compliance questions throughout the project cycle as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Self-starter and dynamic with strong level of self-awareness
  • Experience of grant administration and donor financial reporting – preferably USAID,
  • Experience of organization of events
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • A high level of numeracy skills, and ability to review, manage and carry out budget analysis
  • Exceptional organizational and administration skills
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel 
  • Knowledge of USAID regulations and systems is a desirable
  • Good understanding of the grants and stipend cycle 
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
  • A willingness and ability to adopt a hands-on approach
  • Strong communication, liaison and interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels
  • Strong problem solving and creative thinking skills
  • Fluency in English is strongly preferred
  • Native Spanish is required.

 

Note: This position is posted in a High or Extreme Physical Risk location. Conditions in the field may include, but are not limited to the following: compound living quarters, limited mobility outside of designated areas, limited in-country medical care or pharmacy, limited access to fresh fruit and vegetables, limited access to high speed internet, dress code requirements, unaccompanied posting, and required advanced safety and security training.
