  Job Description

Tacoma Community College (TCC) is pleased to invite applications for Program Specialist 2 – Counseling and Advising.  This position manages and implements the day to day operations and entry services for the front counter for Counseling, Advising, and Career Center, Worker Retraining and Running Start programs. This position supervises, trains and monitors staff and work study students at the counter. Coordinates information shared across all entry services for new students to assure posting and sharing of accurate timely information and the cross-training of front line staff, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient scheduling, problem solving assisting students to navigate the complex experience of coming to college for the first time.  This position interacts with all areas of the campus including faculty, staff and students as well as other agencies such as administrative staff in the Tacoma and Peninsula school districts, at the University of Washington- Tacoma Campus, various community partners. 

Tacoma Community College is a comprehensive state-supported community college servicing more than 720,000 residents of the Tacoma-Pierce County area and enrolling approximately 18,000 students annually (6,000 FTE).  The College's service district includes all of Tacoma and the Pierce County portion of the Olympic Peninsula and serves the Tacoma and Peninsula school districts.  TCC is one of 34 community and technical colleges in a statewide system.  Located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, just south of Seattle. TCC is a diverse, creative and engaging institution - recognized nationally as an Achieving the Dream "Leader College".  

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
  • Two years full time equivalent experience providing professional level customer service and office management, program supervision and administrative/clerical and customer support or closely related experience,

               –or- equivalent combination of education and closely related experience.

  • Intermediate word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email software skills (Microsoft Office preferred).
  • Lead and/or Supervisory experience.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working in a high volume, customer service, front desk setting.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft applications.

This is a full-time staff position scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet department needs and some evening hours may be required. The salary range is $2,925 to $3,807 per month, DOE/DOQ. Tacoma Community College offers a generous benefits package to include: life, health, dental and long-term disability insurance, state retirement, vacation leave, sick leave and holiday pay.
