Do you love museums? Would you enjoy visiting major exhibitions and private collections in the greater Santa Barbara area, guided by curators, art historians, and conservators? Do you like meeting artists in person? Do you want the opportunity for continued adult education in the history of art?
We are looking for a very special person to function as our administrator for the Museum’s four curatorial support groups (https://www.sbma.net/support/getinvolved/supportgroups). Banish boredom by working with four dynamic curators in their respective areas. You would be responsible for managing a wide variety of events, including lectures, artists’ panels, gallery talks with specialists, occasional ‘pop-up’ small dinners, bus trips to area museums and private collections, and cocktail receptions. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to learn more about the organization of art museums and especially, the interface between the Curatorial and Development departments. Prior museum experience is preferred, as is general interest in the history of art. Attention to detail a must, as well as the ability to multitask. Must be a team player, with an outgoing personality!
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is one of the finest museums on the West Coast and is celebrated for the superb quality of its permanent collection. Its mission is to integrate art into the lives of people through internationally recognized exhibitions and special programs, as well as the thoughtful presentation of its permanent collection.
BA degree required: preferably in the Humanities, and a Masters degree is preferred. Must have 1 – 3 years prior Museum or Non Profit Experience.
