The Program for Torture Victims (PTV) assists the courageous survivors of state-sponsored torture and persecution who have stood up for freedom, equality and human dignity. Since 1980, PTV has helped new U.S. refugees, seeking asylum from over 70 countries, heal their physical and psychological wounds and start a second life here in California.
PTV has a unique opportunity for a passionate licensed mental health professional to support immigrant survivors of trauma. The therapist will evaluate and provide treatment for asylum seekers primarily in our new office in Santa Ana and occasionally at immigration detention centers in Orange County.
Responsibilities include: interviewing and assessing asylum seekers, authoring psychological reports as evidence for asylum cases; partnering with a treatment team of a case manager, physician, interpreters, attorneys and massage therapist in providing holistic care and legal representation; providing trauma-informed therapeutic treatment and case management as needed; and documenting client information, services and notes in PTV’s client database.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications or attributes:
A CA-licensed mental health professional (LCSW, MFT, PsyD, LPCC)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong writing skills and ability to adhere to case-related deadlines
Minimum of 3 years of providing trauma-informed therapeutic care (assessments, therapy, crisis intervention and case management)
Experience with immigrant and/or LGBT and/or multilingual populations preferred
Conduct psychological assessments and write evaluations. (Training and support will be provided)
Comfortable working with interpreters OR fluency in an additional language(s) such as Spanish, Arabic, or Vietnamese is a plus
Strong computer skills, including experience working with electronic client care databases and MS Office software
Possession of valid CA Driver’s License and ability to travel to LA Immigration Court and to local immigrant detention centers
