Based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, the Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC) is a multi-service agency offering services in employment and leadership training, education support and advocacy as well as individual and family counseling for immigrant and low-income youth and their families. VYDC’s programs help to divert youth from negative activities by providing constructive activities that impact their world, increase their individual and cultural pride, as well as build community spirit. Founded over 40 years ago, VYDC serves over 500 people of all backgrounds each year.
The Program Assistant will provide program and administrative support for the adult workforce program at VYDC and partner community site, Hospitality House. The VYDC adult workforce program works with limited English Southeast Asians 18 years and older living in the Tenderloin, South of Market and neighborhoods throughout San Francisco with job preparation and job placement. The Program Assistant will support the day to day programming with client intakes, assessments, referrals and linkages and outreach efforts to Southeast Asian community members.

Complete client intake and assessment.
Work with limited English proficient community members in one-on-one and group settings to prepare them for job placements.
Assist with facilitating skills building, job preparation workshops and job fairs and events.
Provide onsite one-on-one and language assistance support for drop-in Vietnamese clients at a community partner location.
Refer and link clients to jobs, programs, and other social services.
Create and update promotional materials to support outreach for program enrollment.
Assist with program outreaching to community members throughout San Francisco.
Assist with maintaining and updating of client files and case notes.
Assist with entering, completing, and submitting monthly internal and external reports through required reporting systems.
Participate in planning and attending agency and program meetings, as well as agency-wide events such as Open House, Winter Celebration, End of the Year Celebration and other agency events.
Attend community gatherings, career and resource fairs, professional development training.
And duties as assigned by Direct Supervisor.
20% At Hospitality House
Assist with 60 referrals of Southeast Asian community members to Hospitality House workforce services.
Support the enrollment of 30 clients to Hospitality House.
Stationed at Hospitality House once a week.
Support VYDC clients to understand Hospitality House services.
Support VYDC clients at Hospitality House hiring events and any other special events hosted at Hospitality House.
Provide translation services and assist VYDC clients to enroll in Hospitality House workshops and classes such as Resume creating, updating, Mock interview, Cover letter (s) creation, etc.
Assist with 2 co-branded job fair and resources fair for VYDC and Hospitality House.
Assist with monthly reports to Hospitality House.
Minimum 4-year college degree or 2-year college with at least 2-year experience in working with a low-income community.
Experience and familiarity with workforce development services a plus.
Minimum of 1-year experience in low-income, diverse communities preferred.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines and goals.
Proficient in Gmail, Microsoft office suites and familiar with a computer management system.
Ability to maintain accurate and complete files.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact with clients from multiple ethnic backgrounds.
Courteous, friendly and customer service oriented.
Excellent interpersonal skill, patience, diplomacy, and tact.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide exceptional community service in one-on-one and group settings.
Bilingual in Southeast Asian language is a plus.
Must pass TB and Fingerprint Clearance prior to working at VYDC.
