Based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, the Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC) is a multi-service agency offering services in employment and leadership training, education support and advocacy as well as individual and family counseling for immigrant and low-income youth and their families. The Center’s programs help to divert youth by providing constructive activities that impact their world increase their individual and cultural pride as well as build community spirit. Founded over 45 years ago, VYDC serves over 500 young people of all background each year.
VYDC is currently seeking a Part-time Housing Assistant to support the Housing program. The Assistant will implement SFHDC’s methodologies through workshops and programs designed to assist community members with housing access. The Assistant will provide one-on-one counseling sessions and housing clinics that may cover a broad array of areas related to the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to secure and maintain affordable housing with rental, and or buying a home. In addition, the Housing Assistant will be responsible for planning and facilitating educational workshops on a variety of topics including rental readiness, homebuyer education, credit building, and basic financial planning and money management. The Assistant will work in a team to ensure clients have access to housing needs.
Prepare and facilitate weekly housing clinic workshops.
Intake and screen client for housing needs.
Assist clients with completing housing applications.
Determines client eligibility for housing programs.
Create case files and monitors client progress.
Refer clients to agency housing program, and other external service providers as relevant to the needs of the client.
Create and maintain clients records, data entry, progress reports, evaluations, and all other program-related documents.
Complete and submit program reports.
Attend all necessary training and meetings such as but not limited to monthly agency and program meetings, community meetings, program training, and professional development training.
Participate in the planning of agency-wide events and activities.
Performs other duties as required
KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to work Monday through Friday.
Customer service oriented, friendly.
Proficient in Google and Microsoft office suite.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must pass TB and Fingerprint Clearance prior to working at VYDC.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, diplomacy, and tact.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines and objectives.
Good knowledge of math and number oriented.
Ability to craft appropriate Action Plan to address basis client needs.
Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with clients experiencing extreme stress & remain compassionately detached from the client’s challenge and/or crisis.
Ability to think on your feet, be creative and innovative in finding solutions to assist the client.
Ability to maintain accurate and complete files.
Ability to interact with clients from multiple ethnic backgrounds in culturally competent and relevant.
Bilingual in Vietnamese is preferred.
