AGENCY DESCRIPTION
Based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, the Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC) is a multi-service agency offering services in employment and leadership training, education support and advocacy as well as individual and family counseling for immigrant and low-income youth and their families. The Center’s programs help to divert youth by providing constructive activities that impact their world increase their individual and cultural pride as well as build community spirit. Founded over 40 years ago, VYDC serves over 500 young people and families of Southeast Asian descent and all background each year.
POSITION SUMMARY
VYDC is currently seeking a Part-time Bilingual Community Outreach Worker to conduct outreach efforts to Southeast Asian community members in the Tenderloin and throughout San Francisco. The Community Outreach worker responsibilities include speaking and engaging with Southeast Asians at their respective locations: ie. school, business establishments, faith/spiritual centers, fairs, apartment buildings to name a few. The community outreach efforts will include phone, in-person, social media, e-blast and other forms of communication. Must be able to work some evenings and weekend. Both outdoor and in-office work is required for this position.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct phone, in-person and social media outreach to Southeast Asian residents in San Francisco.
Work with programs to distribute and promote agency information to beneficiaries, specifically Southeast Asians and Tenderloin community members.
Target and liaison with school officials, community organizations, faith/spiritual centers, relevant business establishments so they know of VYDC services.
Refer potential clients and interest to Front Desk Staff for intake.
Enter activities and data into organization database system.
Maintain accurate records and reporting procedures.
Assist with agency outreach events such as open house and client events.
Attend required training and staff meetings.
Other duties assigned by Direct Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Two-year college minimum preferred or at least one year of experience in conducting outreach to community members.
Bilingual Vietnamese is a plus.
Friendly, outgoing and persuasive.
Proficient in Google and Microsoft office suite.
Proficient in using social media, but willing to train.
Organized and detailed oriented.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, diplomacy, and tact.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Ability to work in a multicultural environment with a diverse staff and clientele.
Must pass TB and Fingerprint Clearance prior to working at VYDC.
