Job Opening – Executive Director
The Business Council on Climate Change (BC3) is seeking an Executive Director (ED) to lead a growing non-profit working at the intersection of business and city-led climate action in San Francisco. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to grow an organization, have a positive impact on the City and County of San Francisco, and work with sustainability professionals from some of the country’s most innovative corporations and city governments.
The new ED will be responsible for working with BC3’s staff, Board, members, and partners to
develop and implement strategies that advance BC3’s mission and grow the organization’s
influence. BC3 recently completed a strategic planning process and the ED’s first priority will be to translate the roadmap generated via that process into action, including by fundraising and expanding the BC3 team. Over time, the ED will have the opportunity to develop new programs and new directions for BC3. The ED will also be responsible for managing BC3’s budget and fundraising to meet programmatic goals. Finally, as the public face of BC3, the ED will be the primary representative of the organization at events and in the media.
We welcome applications from candidates who reflect the diversity of our Bay Area community.
ABOUT THE BUSINESS COUNCIL ON CLIMATE CHANGE
BC3 is a San Francisco-based multi-sector partnership dedicated to incubating, scaling, and sharing world-leading solutions to address climate change. We are based in the beautiful offices of San Francisco’s Department of the Environment and operate as a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Founded in 2006 as a partnership of the U.N. Global Compact and the City and County of San Francisco, BC3 serves as a nimble hub for a powerful network. We have two full-time staff members, two Climate Action Fellows, and a nine-person Strategic Board. We are structured as a membership organization. Our dues paying members include many of San Francisco’s most iconic corporate brands, as well as the City and County of San Francisco. BC3’s programs also engage a diverse array of non-member Bay Area cities, companies, and partner non-profits.
BC3 achieves its mission via program areas focused on corporate purchasing and aggregation, sustainability program sharing and coordination, policy, and community / professional development. We also select annual topical focus areas to guide our work; our two current focus areas are climate resilience/adaptation and employee engagement. Finally, BC3 administers Bay Area SunShares, a group buying program that brings together more than 50 Bay Area cities and large corporations to offer discounts on solar and electric vehicles to Bay Area residents. In 2018, BC3 will also be organizing events and initiatives related to Governor Jerry Brown’s Global Climate Action Summit, which is coming to San Francisco from September 12th - 14th.
BC3 has grown its membership, budget, and impact over the past few years and is now at an important inflection point. The new BC3 Director will be responsible for building on BC3’s momentum to realize the organization’s potential as a nationally significant model for city-business collaboration on climate change.
