Who We Are Looking For: College Track is searching for motivated, committed, and creative leaders who steadfastly believe that all students are born with the potential to graduate from college. These leaders must be devoted to working relentlessly to ensure that all CT students develop the academic and non-cognitive skills needed to succeed in high school and college. The Academic Coach will be an individual who thrives on challenges and opportunity.


About the Role: Academic Coach (Part-Time about 20hrs/week)*

The Academic Coach will work with the San Francisco Academic Affairs program. The goal of this team is to give students the academic support necessary to graduate college-ready and college-eligible. For most students, this means a GPA of 3.0 or higher and an ACT score of 23 or higher. Academic Coaches (ACs) are responsible for ensuring that all College Track students maximize their potential. CT students must receive support aligned to their individual needs, and ACs are the primary advocates of those needs.


Academic Coaches may tutor students in 9th-12th grade subjects, teach ACT workshops, lead study skills workshops, provide academic advising, outreach to teachers, counselors, and families, administer practice tests, manage a caseload of students to academic outcomes, develop curriculum, and manage programming. ACs will also play an integral role in maintaining a positive site culture and driving student achievement by managing student productivity and well-being in public spaces.


General Responsibilities May Include:

  • Work 16-20 hours per week, primarily 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. Mondays through Fridays with additional hours on some Saturdays

  • Attend onboarding and orientation prior to the start of the summer, fall, and spring sessions

  • Provide targeted academic and advising support, which may include subject-specific tutoring, advisory classes, book groups, group and individual tutoring, academic workshops, and ACT workshops**

  • Oversee the success of approximately 15 – 20 students via academic advising, goal-setting, outreach, and programming support

  • Embed and model habits that impact academic achievement (including organization, time management, self-advocacy, growth mindset, and study habits)

  • Plan lessons and be knowledgeable of engaging, skill-building activities and tools

  • Support students through college and scholarship application process

  • Support orientation and outreach activities such as Field Days, outdoor education, family potlucks, and carnivals

  • Participate in weekly professional development and meetings to discuss student needs and develop skills to provide targeted supports

  • Meet regularly with your manager and participate in regular feedback, including formal and informal observations

  • Complete administrative tasks including, but not limited to, maintaining the center, monitoring workshop space, monitoring technology, taking attendance, inputting and tracking data, maintaining accurate student records, and contacting students

  • Facilitate community building exercises that reference our core values

  • Collect, analyze, and utilize data to maintain and advance program quality

  • Organize and maintain program supplies to ensure students have access to the tools they need daily

  • Other duties as assigned


**Academic Coaches will also have role-specific responsibilities either as Workshop Instructors or Tutors. Description of each is provided below:


Workshop Instructors

  • Deliver curriculum to meet learning objectives and adapt lessons to meet student needs

  • Manage a classroom of 10-20 students

  • Prepare classroom materials and resources



  • Provide small group and individual tutoring within a large tutoring room

  • Uphold tutoring room expectations by managing student behavior and monitoring productivity

  • Challenge students to reach content mastery through homework help and supplemental learning activities


Position Qualifications

  • Associate's degree, Bachelor’s degree, or currently working toward degree

  • Passion for and commitment to educational access

  • 1-year experience working with a diverse population of underserved students in a relevant area (e.g. tutoring or teaching, college advising, or youth development)

  • Strong facilitation skills

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills

  • Ability to be a self-starter and identify opportunities for self-improvement and productive uses of undirected time

  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset

  • Ability to quickly build rapport with students and keep them motivated and productive

  • High level of self-awareness, humility, and emotional intelligence

  • Cleared background check and TB test before start date

  • Subject expertise in Math, Science, and/or Spanish preferred

  • Bilingual preferred, Spanish-speaking preference

  • Minimum availability: 3 days a week. Monday - Friday.



Salary: $15.00 to $20.00 /hour
