  Job Description

Overview:

Greenpeace is hiring an online content associate for our high-performing, dynamic, creative digital team.

Do you love writing? When you’re scrolling through your social media feeds, are you taking mental notes about content ideas to try? Are you excited about using your skills to get people to take action to solve big problems like climate change? Then this job may be for you.

The Online Content Associate will be responsible for implementing digital strategies and creating content for email, social media, SMS and other digital platforms. One day this might mean drafting a two-week email series for our campaign to stop offshore drilling. The next day you might be live-streaming a protest, or writing a rapid-response email in 20 minutes.

We're looking for people with excellent writing skills, the ability to learn about an issue quickly, and a passion for innovation and social change. The position requires a basic overall understanding of digital communications technology (i.e. social media platforms, basic content management systems, CRMs, SMS, and web management) and techniques.

It’s a great opportunity to work with an amazing team of professionals and implement the online strategy of one of the largest and most effective environmental organizations in the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the online editor and others from the digital team and across the organization to develop our online content strategy so that we are maximizing our ability to engage our supporters, fundraise, and win campaigns.
  • For campaign and fundraising projects, work with engagement leads or project teams to develop an output strategy including email, social media, and web content.
  • Write compelling copy that engages Greenpeace’s over one million supporters to take action or donate money. Produce content on the appropriate platform: code and send emails, schedule tweets, etc.
  • Working with the data team, email strategist, and others to develop and execute email or other tests.
  • Work with the Social Media Strategist to plan and implement weekly social media output strategies on a variety of Greenpeace’s platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;
  • Independently create compelling visual and/or video content for Facebook and other social platforms to help promote our campaigns and fundraising work;
  • Create onlineads to reach new targeted audiences and acquire new supporters with compelling online advocacy and fundraising campaigns;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants must possess these qualifications:

  • Comfort with and knowledge of social and racial justice issues.
  • 1– 3 years of experience in writing and fundraising for online channels like email, blogs, and social media.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Functional knowledge of online CRMs, social media platforms, and CMSs like Wordpress.
  • Basic HTML/CSS coding skills.
  • Ability to produce high-quality content in a short period of time, and to switch gears easily between issues and channels.
  • Preferred: ability to produce short videos and/or create graphics in Photoshop; knowledge of best practices for video and graphics on social media channels.

Benefits:

Greenpeace USA values a healthy work-life balance and has flexible, family-friendly employment policies. Our competitive benefits package for full-time employees includes medical, dental, and vision coverage with low contributions from staff.
