SDYS Job Announcement:
Part-Time Overnight Residential Counselor
Status: Part-time, 25 hours/week; $14.43/hour
Specific Responsibilities: Accountable to the Program Manager for the maintenance and overnight supervision of TAY Academy’s Emergency Housing Component with transitional age youth residents who have been victims of crime. Provision of a safe, consistent and nurturing environment for youth residents.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: Must have ability to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to assist youth. Must have ability to hear and speak to exchange information and make presentations. Must have ability to lift and carry 20 pounds--lifting books, materials and equipment to execute groups and presentations. Seeing to read, prepare and review a variety of activities and to monitor youth activities. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior.
Qualifications: 21 years of age or older; High School degree with three years of experience working with youth in a residential setting or Associates degree and two years full time work experience with adolescents in a residential setting or bachelor’s degree and experience working with youth. Demonstrated ability to work with youth-in-crisis and transition and work as a Residential Team Member implementing programming. Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma informed care and dual diagnosis treatment; experience working in trauma informed and dual diagnosis programs preferred. Criminal history and DMV records must meet required standards and must be willing to use own transportation for work purposes with a mileage reimbursement. Willing to go through clearance process which may include drug testing (Hire is pending the results of appropriate clearances).
