Youth Support Partner
TAY Academy
Status: Full-time, $32,968/year plus excellent benefits
Specific Responsibilities: Accountable to Program Manager. The YSP is responsible for ensuring that the facility is safe and accessible and that the overall milieus are supportive, affirming and youth driven. Responsible for providing comprehensive trauma-informed peer support services to youth in drop-in center and throughout San Diego County in order to ensure that standards relating to inclusivity and safety are maintained.
Duties:
- Develop, implement and evaluate an integrated approach for transition-aged youth, some with co-occurring disorders, in quality trauma informed youth programs, which adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of San Diego Youth Services as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality.
- Acquire knowledge of the role and responsibility of the SDYS Board of Director and stay current.
- Establish rapport with transition-aged youth from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Link youth with resources that are appropriate to their individualized needs.
- Welcome and support volunteers in the organization and assist them in accomplishing their services whenever applicable.
- Orient service partners to TAY Academy services through intake and needs assessments as appropriate and provide crisis intervention, recreational opportunities and peer support services to youth.
- Provide support services that include accompanying youth to meetings/appointments; provide advocacy and referrals as applicable.
- Coordinate advocacy efforts for youth serviced within and across the TAY system of care and assist youth in locating, coordinating and developing informal and formal resources and networks in the community.
- Conduct outreach to prospective service partners in the community; follow-up on all referrals to YE program to engage youth in services; screen prospective service partners for eligibility to enter program. Triage with Housing Specialist for needed services.
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with staff and volunteers within the program, the center, the agency, and the community.
- Participate in all required trainings, meetings, and consultation/supervisions.
- Promote productivity in compliance with appointed grants and summary of work.
- Maintain accurate and timely uniform record documentation on all youth as needed by TAY Academy database standards.
- Maintain clear, effective and open communication with youth and staff.
- Work with service partners in the community and in the drop-in center and ensure that standards relating to safety and inclusivity are maintained.
- Promote greater youth participation in policy, program and service delivery at TAY Academy.
- Participate in the maintenance of the day-to-day cleanliness and order of the physical facility and grounds.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service-partners health protected information, as well as other application information and material in accordance to agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws including HIPAA.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications: Must have direct experience as a consumer (or Care-Giver of a consumer) of mental health services, the juvenile justice system, child protective services, or special education. That is, applicant must have directly experienced system involvement. Must be at least 21 years of age and have a High School diploma. Bi-lingual desirable. Completed Peer Specialist training preferred. Able to work in a diverse environment and demonstrate cultural competence. Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment. Must be available to work weekends and evenings as assigned by supervisor and/or as needed. Willing to and successfully complete background check, drug test, and TB test. Must have or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification. Must have own, reliable transportation and must be able to provide transport to youth as needed in the community.
