Health Education/Prevention Outreach Worker
Youth Emergency Shelter
Status: Part-time (24 hours), $14.21/hour plus excellent benefits
Specific Responsibilities: Accountable to the Program Manager. Provide street and program outreach and health education groups to at-risk, runaway or homeless youth and young adults (ages 12 to 24) through the coordinated provision of HIV prevention and skill building activities. Maintain community development within neighborhood and community at large, including relationships with other providers, businesses and law enforcement through community development activities. Available to assist in the safety and security of shelter when needed.
Qualifications: Associate degree in Social Work or related field or 2 years’ experience working with high risk young adults. Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment; experience working in trauma-informed and dual diagnosis treatment; experience working in trauma informed and dual diagnosis programs preferred. Knowledge of community development. Experience in street outreach work, crisis intervention, team approach and self-help. Basic computer and data entry skills. Bilingual (Spanish/English) helpful. Available to work some evenings, weekends and holidays. Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Must have driver’s license, a clean driving record; be willing to obtain First Aid & CPR certification, and willing to drive throughout San Diego County (mileage reimbursement available). Employment is subject to required clearances which include tuberculosis test, fingerprinting, background checks, and drug testing.
