zSharp Teacher Job Description
zSharp is a nonprofit organization 501(c)3 that hires full-time and part-time music teachers to provide comprehensive, in-school music education to children in Bay Area elementary schools who would not otherwise be exposed to music in a formal setting. Our music classes are completely integrated into the school day, reinforcing other academic activities.
Music teachers will be embedded in one or possibly two schools, teaching weekly music classes. Music teachers will be expected to make engage students with music from a variety of cultures and traditions, as well as make connects with other subjects when applicable through relationships with classroom teachers. As such, zSharp music teachers should be ready and able to serve as full-time faculty members at their school(s) and interact with their colleagues accordingly.
We are currently accepting applications for music teachers at zSharp partner schools. Applicants should meet most, if not all of the criteria listed below and possess a strong passion for bringing quality music education to diverse student populations.
-Mastery of and enthusiasm for content subject area
-Strong organizational and communication skills
-Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills
-At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience or other qualifying experience with groups of K-7th grade students
-Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom
-Knowledge of California and Common Core standards and ability to integrate into a curriculum
-Experience in preparing for various concerts
-Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player
-Experience working with general music and choral classes
-Bachelor’s degree in Music
-Bilingual in Spanish/English
-California Credential or education courses
-Knowledge of Orff and Kodaly methods desirable, willingness to train for them as necessary required
Benefits: All teachers are W-2 employees, so zSharp contributes to your Social Security, Medicare, etc. In addition, zSharp provides health and dental insurance for teachers working more than 25 hours/week, a yearly stipend for attending external music education conferences and seminars (e.g., Orff Level 3 training), and a discretionary budget for purchasing whatever additional instruments and supplies you may need.
zSharp also provides a supportive community of other experienced music teachers who are eager to brainstorm lesson plans or recommend repertoire, as well as provide both formal and informal professional development and mentorship to help you grow as a teacher.
