Position: Development Directo
Hours: 32 hrs/wk (0.75 FTE), primarily occurring Monday through Friday, 9 am - 5 pm and occasional evenings and weekends
Schedule: Work days negotiable and flexible so long as Development Director can best execute job responsibilities and as mutually determined with Executive Director
Location: Places of work span the ECO office: 4214 SE 12th Ave Portland, OR (near a MAX line and major bus route) partner sites, meeting locations around town, etc. Work can also be done remotely, as mutually determined with Executive Director
Compensation: $36,500 salary. Salary negotiable.

Summary of Position:
The Development Director leads the effort to raise funds for the organization, thereby furthering the mission of Ecology in Classrooms and Outdoors (ECO) to connect kids to nature. The Development Director creates and implements an annual Development Plan and cultivates and maintains relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors. Communications with donors are carried out in cooperation with the Communications Specialist. The Development Director supervises one part-time (15hr/wk) Development Associate. The Development Director, with support from the Development Associate, understands, utilizes, and maintains the donor database. The Development Director works cooperatively with the Executive Director, Director of Operations, and Grant Writer to move grant writing and projects forward.
ECO is very interested in interviewing diverse candidates for this position.
• Create, enact, and track a yearly development plan and budget in support of ECO’s strategic goals.
• Lead all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the development program including the supervision of the development staff, outside contractors, and volunteers.
• Experience in project management, ability to: think strategically and tactically to steer a project from start to finish, inclusive of all components and details ranging from budgetary to relational
• Personally cultivate, solicit, steward, and monitor a portfolio of past donors and donor prospects, prioritizing donor stewardship, acquisition, and increased contributions.
• Possess excellent interpersonal and networking skills: ability to speak comfortably, enthusiastically, knowledgeably with donors and potential donors and to establish connections that advance ECO’s mission
• Represent ECO by delivering presentations to businesses, professional groups, religious groups, and other organizations.
• Support and delegate tasks to board members and Executive Director in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of gifts to ECO.
• Support the timely submission of grant proposals, reporting, and the management of foundation relations in conjunction with Executive Director and Director of Operations
• Manage donor events, including annual garden party, as well as other smaller fundraising and cultivation events.
• Communicate closely with the Program Manager and Director of Operations to identify areas of collaboration.
• Identify opportunities within program needs for donor engagement, and assist Program Manager in making opportunities happen, i.e. donor volunteer days.
• Track donor stewardship, prospect research, gift records, philanthropic requests, pledges, and contributions via management of donor database.
• Reconcile fundraising income streams with organization's monthly financial reports
• Collaborate with Communications Specialist coordinator to craft and implement an annual, integrated marketing and communications strategy that includes annual reports, press releases, blog posts, newsletters, brochures, event materials, website, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook), and other digital marketing platforms.
Leadership and Management (20%)
• Supervise Development Associate, contractors, partners, and volunteers to ensure campaign completion and goals reached.
• Serve as a member of the leadership team with the Executive Director, Director of Operations, Communications Specialist, and Program Manager.
• Development and communication liaison to the board. Present development reports and share findings with the Executive Director and board of directors.
• Serve on board committees as assigned or as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.
