Development and Communications Assistant
Reports To: Development and Communications Manager
The Development and Communications Assistant provides critical support to the Development and Communications department. This position will provide departmental support in development and communication activities including: grant writing and management, donor acknowledgement, donor cultivation and stewardship, sponsorships, publications, social media, e-newsletter and eblasts, event planning, volunteer management, and will work closely with the Development and Communications and Program staff.
● Grants: Maintain calendar of deadlines for grant reports, renewals, and new proposals. Assist with drafting letters of intent, proposals, and grant reports as needed.
● Research: Gather and synthesize research on major donors and new prospective funders, sponsors, event attendees and other key stakeholders.
● Donor database and tracking: Maintain donor and prospect records through data entry and updates. Generate reports and lists for mailings, events, and donor engagement.
● Materials: Assist with the development of print and digital fundraising materials.
● Social Media: Gather, edit and write content for social media platforms and maintain posting schedule.
● Website: Manage and implement regular website updates.
● Marketing: Provide support in the design and production of print and electronic materials for events and programs. Work collaboratively to identify opportunities for promotion of events and the organization as a whole. Organize and document AAI’s press coverage and keep press kits/files up to date. Maintain and update media list regularly.
● Assist with Asian Arts Initiative events on occasional nights and weekends.
● Act as a representative of the organization at external events.
● Willingness to work outside of main responsibilities as advised by supervisor.
First Year Success Criteria
● Increased following on social media platforms.
● CRM data is up to date and accurate.
● Accurate and up-to-date tracking of grant deadlines.
● Bachelor’s Degree
● Experience in administrative support, development or communications in a nonprofit setting preferred.
● Demonstrated experience with social media marketing and/or knowledge of industry trends.
● Experience with CRM database management; familiarity with Salesforce strongly preferred.
● Keen sense of discretion when handling confidential donor and other sensitive information.
● Superior attention to detail.
● Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills as well as an eye for design.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google suite.
● Ability to work independently and also be a team player.
● Positive attitude and willing participation in a small team dynamic.
● Commitment to organizational values of social justice and equity.
Hours and Compensation
This is a part-time permanent salary position at approximately 20 hours/week. Evening and weekend hours may be required. The annual salary is $15,500-$20,800. The position is eligible for AAI’s medical and dental group plan, a commuter pass benefit and a generous paid time off package on a prorated basis.
