Clean Energy Advocate Job viewed 493 times.
  Job Description

PennEnvironment is seeking an experienced staff person to spearhead our climate change and clean energy programs. This person will work with our statewide program and field team, our digital organizer, our citizen outreach operations and our national advocates at Environment America to build momentum, expand support, and win policies that accelerate Pennsylvania’s shift to clean, renewable energy.

Pennsylvania has been at the heart of the nation’s energy decisions and policies for more than 100 years.  Our state’s abundance of dirty energy sources like coal, oil, gas and nuclear energy has left a legacy of pollution that has existed for generations, scarring Pennsylvania’s landscape and compromising our communities’ health for too long.  Our state stands at an energy crossroads, and we know that in order to move beyond a dirty energy past we need a vision for a clean energy future.

It’s time for Pennsylvania to again shape the nation’s energy future by aggressively pushing towards 100% renewable energy as quickly as possible. From powering homes in Philadelphia with solar, to building wind farms along Lake Erie, to aggressive efforts to slash energy use through efficiency, we can be at the forefront of the clean energy revolution.

The opportunity for progress has never been more real.  Clean energy jobs are outpacing fossil fuel jobs, and as the price of clean energy has quickly become cost effective with dirty power sources, new solar arrays and wind turbines are popping up in Pennsylvania every day.

PennEnvironment is ready to make this vision a reality. We’ll need to raise the profile and benefits of clean energy projects that are already happening, and engage the public to push decision makers to embrace a 100% renewable future. We will use our expansive statewide network and access with decision makers, opinion leaders and power brokers to get more citizens, more people and more organizations representing varied and powerful constituencies engaged in the effort.

Campaign Director: First and foremost, PennEnvironment’s Climate and Clean Energy Advocate will be the point person to develop and drive this campaign. This means working with our staff and our allies to ensure success for our clean energy campaigns. And it involves developing and executing our initiatives, managing our partnerships with allies, and meeting our strategic and tactical objectives.

Coalition Building: One of the most exciting opportunities in our clean energy work is our ability to build powerful and non-traditional coalitions in support of clean energy. For our Climate and Clean Energy Advocate, this means managing our partnerships with collaborating organizations and key players, cultivating relationships with diverse and powerful allies, and expanding the constituencies supporting our efforts. This includes the clean energy business sector, academics and experts, labor unions, minority organizations, public health groups and civic organizations.

Grassroots Mobilization:  PennEnvironment’s Climate and Clean Energy Advocate will spearhead our work to inform and engage the public on these important issues. This means working with our organizers and advocates across the state to build our network of supporters and members, while also educating and mobilizing citizens. This also entails working with our digital team to expand and deepen the support we have through our online community, in order to create opportunities for action for our members and for the general public.

Media and Visibility:  PennEnvironment’s Climate and Clean Energy Advocate will be the spokesperson for our organization on all things related to this subject. This means through the media, at speaking engagements and other mediums, with the goal of getting the word out far and wide about this campaign, its importance, and its opportunities for success. By elevating the issue of clean energy in the public debate, we can better educate and motivate citizens while holding decision-makers accountable. At the same time, increasing visibility means greater exposure for PennEnvironment through public forums, speaking engagements, and in the media, in turn helping to build a stronger, more sustainable organization.

Research and Policy: PennEnvironment’s Climate and Clean Energy Advocate will manage research associated with the campaign, including in-house and vendor-related research reports, messaging and packaging, and policy review.

Advocacy: PennEnvironment’s Climate and Clean Energy Advocate will be the staff person who is bottom line responsible for tracking, researching and ensuring PennEnvironment’s engagement on state, regional and national policies that will help the Commonwealth move towards 100% clean, renewable energy. This includes spearheading the writing and submission of testimony; drafting and distribution PennEnvironment position papers on legislation and regulations; and communicating directly with elected officials and regulators in support of, or opposition to, specific policies as they relate directly to clean energy issues for Pennsylvania.

Fundraising and Organization Building: PennEnvironment’s Climate and Clean Energy Advocate will be charged with developing and implementing a new strategy for building foundations and donor support for our clean energy program work, as well as work with our citizen outreach team and digital organizer to raise money for our clean energy campaigns. At the same time, the Advocate will help recruit new staff, interns and volunteers to increase our impact and build more sway.
