ChangeLab Solutions seeks a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who is a lawyer with significant experience in social justice, public interest law, or government practice. Since 1997, ChangeLab Solutions has worked across the nation to advance equitable laws and policies that make communities healthier places to live for everyone. We believe that effective laws and policies related to clean air and water, housing, transportation, education, land use, food justice, violence prevention, and civil rights are the most powerful tools to improve community health and address inequalities. We have the largest library in the nation of model laws and policies to improve community health, and we work closely with community leadership to provide the tools, technical assistance, and evidence-based research they need to scale-up and advance meaningful change.
ChangeLab Solutions has an interdisciplinary 60-person team of lawyers, public health specialists, planners, policy analysts and more working with neighborhoods, cities, and states to create thriving communities. We have a dynamic national Board of Directors and an annual budget of approximately $10 million. Our funders and partners include major national philanthropies, advocacy organizations, hospital systems, universities, and federal, state and local government health agencies.

Advance national leadership that builds the field of law and policy in creating health equity. The CEO will have substantial impact on advancing equitable laws and policies that help make communities across the country healthy places to live for everyone.
Leverage existing tools and strategies from ChangeLab Solutions’ portfolio to address emerging community health challenges. The new CEO will bring his/her/their own vision and a strategic approach for harnessing ChangeLab Solutions’ expertise and success. S/he/they will sustain advances on legacy issues – such as obesity, tobacco and housing – and identify future policy challenges and opportunities across the nation.
Grow and diversify the organization’s funding base through new and innovative partnerships and secure the funding base that sustains ChangeLab Solutions into the future. The new CEO will foster robust, trusting relationships with key funders as well as expand the organization’s funding base through partnerships that ensure broad-based sustainable support and demonstrate its value to the field.
Enhance ChangeLab Solutions’ work at the federal, state and local level by expanding its reach across an ecosystem of partners and funders. The new CEO will engage with cross-sector partners including government, advocacy organizations, healthcare, and the corporate sector to work together to advance health equity in their communities.
Strengthen the organization’s internal infrastructure to support ongoing excellence. The CEO will manage, support, and mentor a talented team of professionals. S/he/they will support and strengthen an internal culture that fosters cross-team collaboration and learning, entrepreneurism and innovation, and partnerships based on respect and kindness.
Partner with the Board to optimize and leverage its existing talents while identifying opportunities for continued development. The CEO will identify strategic opportunities for Board engagement and assess areas of future development. S/he/they will work with the Board and committee chairs to develop a Board governance plan and ensure strong relationships within the Board and between the Board and the CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The new CEO will have a proven record of driving law and policy change. S/he/they will have a sophisticated understanding of the public interest policy landscape. S/he/they will be a strategic thinker, an entrepreneurial builder of relationships with funders and partners, and a confident spokesperson for the complex issues of law and policy.
