We are seeking a highly-motivated, self-starting and detail-oriented Special Assistant to support Children Now’s President with scheduling and internal organizational management, extensive external education, health, and child welfare policy, advocacy, communications and outreach activities, as well as supporting the organization’s Children’s Movement and development (fundraising) efforts. This position will be central to managing the President’s schedule according to key organizational priorities; supporting relationships with a wide range of partners, policy makers, funders and donors, key stakeholders and media; and preparing for a diverse scope of meetings. This full-time, nonexempt position will report to the President and be located in our Oakland office.
Ideal applicants will be fast learners, able to handle a high volume of work quickly and efficiently, with excellent recall and superior attention to detail. Candidates should have strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and excellent judgment and work ethic. The candidate must be flexible, adaptable and solutions-oriented and able to effectively anticipate the needs of the President. This position is ideal for someone who thinks strategically, takes initiative and enjoys learning and contributing in a fast-paced environment, as well as a deep commitment to racial equity and Children Now’s mission. The position offers an opportunity to learn about research, policy advocacy, coalition-building, politics, nonprofit management and fundraising while helping to support our efforts to improve the well-being of all of California’s children and remove racial and other inequities that limit children’s opportunities to reach their full potential.
Primary Responsibilities Using initiative, attention to detail and critical thinking skills, efficiently complete a diverse variety of administrative, communications and project management tasks for the President including but not limited to:
