Behind the Book works in NYC public schools, providing rich, innovative literacy programs to Title 1 classrooms. Working with students from Pre-K to 12th grades, Behind the Book identifies culturally responsive books and partners with teachers to create immersive programs that bring the authors of those books into classrooms. Through a series of workshops, authors discuss their book and teach a genre of writing, encouraging students to see themselves as readers and writers.
Behind the Book seeks program interns to assist with the design, implementation and administration of our programs. The Program Intern will work closely with the Program Administrator and the Program Coordinators to support all aspects of our school programs.
The position is based in our Harlem office and in person so long as schools are.
The commitment is for one semester, three days per week, hours are flexible.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage tasks independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required as are strong computer skills in Microsoft Office. An interest in literacy, previous tutoring experience, and Spanish proficiency a plus.
