THE GOLDEN DOOR INITIATIVE
The Golden Door Initiative is a grant-funded project which will collect and amplify the stories of refugees, asylees and Muslims across the United States; these populations will be invited to use listening and conversation to collect, preserve, and share the stories of refugees and asylees who have come to America in search of safety and human rights protections.
As our national debate around immigration policy grows, it is crucial to build awareness, understanding, and empathy with the refugee/asylee and native-born Muslim communities, dismantle common negative stereotypes about those who migrate to the U.S., and provide storytelling support to direct service organizations working with these populations. StoryCorps will collect, preserve, and share the stories of refugees and asylees who come to America in search of safety and human rights protections and highlight the perspectives of native-born Muslim populations in the U.S.
As the Temporary Manager, Community Partnerships (Golden Door Initiative) you will create, cultivate and manage relationships with community partners throughout the country for the Golden Door Initiative. You will serve as the first point of contact for StoryCorps’ recording services and programs for organizations, creating partnerships that enable individuals to interview throughout the community.
The Temporary Manager, Community Partnerships reports to the Associate Director, Community Partnerships. You will also provide guidance, support, and leadership to Facilitators (the StoryCorps staff who record StoryCorps interviews) who are deployed to locations across the country to record “The Golden Door” interviews onsite with partner organizations. You will coordinate outreach support to engage the initiative’s target populations through StoryCorps’ Atlanta and Chicago StoryBooths and the Mobile Tour.
StoryCorps records, shares, and preserves stories from a diverse range of American voices — from our Griot Initiative to preserve stories of African Americans, to our Historias Initiative to collect the experiences of Latinos. We also seek to recruit and develop a staff whose diversity matches the diversity of the communities we serve, and we strongly encourage applications from people of color and the LGBTQ community.
The Temporary Manager, Community Partnerships (Golden Door Initiative) is a grant-funded temporary position, ending December 2022.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Engage and collaborate with an existing advisory board; research and conduct outreach to develop partnerships with local organizations and recruit participants to record interviews as part of the Golden Door Initiative
Plan and oversee onsite recording days with partner organizations; organize logistics and communicate details with StoryCorps staff and community partners
Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to develop and implement initiative and/or partnership-specific trainings for StoryCorps staff
Design and convene Listening Events (opportunities to listen to and discuss StoryCorps audio) in communities where the Golden Door interviews are recorded, or in other locations for strategic outreach and engagement purposes
Coordinate radio station involvement with StoryCorps-related community activities and local StoryCorps broadcasts
Ensure the accurate data collection and entry of all partner-related information is added to our Salesforce database
Prepare reports for StoryCorps funders and internal organizational use
Collaborate with StoryCorps’ Marketing & Communications Department to support the communications functions of partnership initiatives
Train partner organizations on utilization of the Online Archive and the dissemination of participant content
Train organizations in the use of our StoryCorps App to continue to collect and share the stories of their constituents
Perform other duties to support the Community Partnerships function and Interview Collection department, as assigned
You have a Bachelor’s degree or similar combination of relevant education + experience.
You have a minimum of 2 years full-time work experience managing collaborative programs or projects (preferably in a nonprofit environment).
You also have at least 1 year of experience working with migrant populations (immigrants, asylees, refugees) and/or native-born Muslim populations.
You have demonstrated experience developing and executing outreach plans.
You excel in public presentation and speaking skills.
You communicate effectively – by email, phone or in person
You’re organized, have a keen attention to detail, and you’re able to multitask effectively.
You have strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
You have an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; you are a great team player.
You are flexible and adaptable to a growing, changing organization.
You demonstrate cultural humility and thrive in a diverse working environment.
