Duties: Coordinate, implement and assist in the planning of afterschool middle school (6th, 7th and 8th graders) activities and services;
Provide individual and/or group counseling to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade middle school participants;
Maintain records on all 6th, 7th and 8th grade middle school participants and individual and group counseling logs;
Assist in the recruitment and selection of the designated number of eligible students for participation in the after school program;
Help plan and provide supervision on high school, college, career and/or cultural trips;
Maintain constant contact with target school(s), administrators, teachers and parents in order to maximize program’s effectiveness;
Attend Parent, staff orientations and meetings, as well as Parent Open Houses;
Provide monthly progress reports and other reports as requested;
Plan and provide workshops on various relevant topics for participants and/or their parents;
Conduct follow-up/evaluation on all students served;
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Middle School Program Director or HCE Assistant Director.
Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work or a related field and also experience in working with low-income or minority youth. Have knowledge of good classroom management skills and planning and implementing appropriate curricula. Must have demonstrated good oral and writing communication skills and experience giving presentations or workshops. Good organizational skills are required. An individual who is bilingual (Spanish/English) and with some supervisory experience is preferred.
Salary Range: $18 - $20/hour
