Job Description

Performs any or all of the following, ensuring safety and compliance with instructions/standard procedures.

  •  Identifies problems and makes minor plumbing repairs including fixing leaky or plugged faucets and sinks; repairs or replaces pipes, drains or waste lines.
  •   Analyzes routine electrical problems; repairs appliances and kitchen equipment; makes minor electrical repairs such as repairing fuses, replacing fixtures and installing electrical outlets where wiring already exists; determines if electrical contractor is needed.
  • Performs routine carpentry work; repairs furniture, shelves, fences, floors and walls/wall partitions, etc.
  • Installs windows and window screens; hangs drapery rods and blinds.
  • Hangs doors and installs new locks
  • Moves furniture, equipment, supplies
  • Repairs plaster or non-plaster walls, refinishes building interiors and exteriors.
  • Paints interior and exterior surfaces, patches walls as needed.
  • Cleans roof, removes debris, cleans gutters and makes minor patches.
  • Washes buildings and walkways using power washing equipment.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in good working order, maintains stock of regularly used supplies and equipment required by maintenance duties; monitors usage and orders more as needed; stocks supplies in good order.
  • Maintains routine records.
  • Responds positively to request for assistance from staff and others; identifies and attends promptly to emergencies.
  • Supports and complies with agency policies, OSHA rules, health and safety regulations and guidelines, etc.
  • Participates with supervisor and receives feedback with commitment to on-going refinement and performance improvement.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality regarding children and their families in compliance with agency policies and other regulations.
  • Ability to work on weekends or evenings and/or over time.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this job.  Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

 To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have:

  •  A working knowledge and experience in maintenance of facilities to a high standard that meets or exceeds OSHA and related health and safety standards for childcare/educational facilities.
  • At least one year of solid general maintenance experience making minor carpentry, painting, and plumbing repairs and/or related experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, chemical instructions, operating and equipment/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • A California driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurer.
  • Ability to physically perform all duties of the job and perform job safely, with reasonable accommodations if necessary, without endangering the health of safety of him/herself or others.
  • Ability to respond to emails and use electronic devices such as cell phones, tablets, etc.
  • Completion of education sufficient to possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities established for this position.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Bi-lingual skills in Spanish/English are preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, identifying maintenance needs and doing the necessary jobs without constant supervision.
  • A courteous and friendly, positive personality.

 Health/Safety Clearances require:

  •  Proof of recent tuberculosis test and must submit updated testing/results as per agency internal requirements.
  • Pre-employment health screening report upon hiring and as per agency internal requirements.
  • Fingerprint clearance on DOJ, FBI and CA thru Community Care Licensing.
  • Proof of adult mandatory vaccinations: influenza (annual requirement) and/or waiver, Tdap (booster every 10 years) &/or proof of immunity provided by physician AND measles vaccination and/or proof of immunity provided by physician.
