The Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from a substance use disorder and for those who choose to live sober. By participating in our physical, social and educational programs, participants build confidence, self-respect, and community. Activities offered include CrossFit, climbing, hiking, boxing, running, yoga, road & mountain biking, and strength training. Through traditional fundraising strategies and revenue-generating ventures, Phoenix is able to provide free programs for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety. The Phoenix currently operates in 45 communities across 24 states.
The primary responsibility of the Program Coordinator is to drive Phoenix volunteer-led programming in the Los Angeles Area (we will likely hire more than one person for this role in order to cover different sections of LA). This role will deploy Phoenix's program activation strategy, which includes recruiting and establishing volunteer instructors, ensuring quality programming, and engaging in community relations, marketing, and fundraising. Excellent social skills and the ability to connect with partner organizations, donors, participants, and the general public are essential. The ideal candidate will have leadership experience and ability to instruct in one or more athletic disciplines such as CrossFit, rock climbing, yoga, hiking, cycling, running, surfing, or boxing. The Phoenix is a dynamic, creative and fast-paced environment requiring employees to be flexible and adaptable to ever-changing situations. A strong connection to The Phoenix mission and commitment to leading by example are critical to this position; preference will be given to those with personal experience in recovery from alcohol or a substance use disorder.
