The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) is a non-partisan, non-profit statewide organization founded in 1996, as California reeled from the ugly aftermath of Proposition 187 and harsh federal copycats. A multi-ethnic hub for statewide advocacy, CIPC has worked hand-in-hand with community partners across the state for two decades to create a national blueprint for pro-immigrant policy.
A core component of CIPC’s social change approach is to support emerging coalitions of local and regional groups who organize with the state’s diverse immigrant communities or provide services.
The Communications Trainer will nurture the capacity of these local partners to shape and advance values-based, pro-immigrant narratives and to effectively engage with local media outlets in order to reach key audiences. The Trainer will serve as a mentor to 3-4 regional hubs, developing the communications leadership of on-the-ground organizations.
The Trainer will conduct workshops for partner organizations and groups that sharpen framing, story-telling, and media engagement skills. The Trainer will be responsible for leading trainings and identifying and coordinating new training opportunities as they enable groups to participate in policy change campaigns in a visible, more meaningful way. The Trainer will be responsible for maintaining some online training materials and information as well as responding to online questions and inquiries. This position will involve significant travel within the state.
The Communications Trainer reports to the Communications Director based in Oakland and will work closely with others to support communications needs for various campaigns.
