We are looking for a talented program designer, facilitator, and relationship builder to serve Los Angeles, the Southern California region, and beyond. You are an experienced professional who understands the landscape of the Jewish community, and knows how to activate the community’s innovation potential. As a member of a small, regional, multidisciplinary team, you will supports the effort to co-design and implement a curriculum drawn from best practices in entrepreneurship, business strategy, and design thinking.
The Design Strategist (DS) is a full-time exempt position based in Los Angeles, and reports to the the Innovation Lead in LA. The role of the DS focuses on programming for Entrepreneurs & Ventures (40%), Intrapreneurs & Institutions (35%), and the Community & the Field (25%).
Engage Los Angeles social entrepreneurs in relevant programming, providing them with the tools, network, and resources to transform their visions into successful, scalable Jewish social ventures. Key activities include: leading local outreach, recruitment, and selection; designing and facilitating program workshops; providing individualized coaching and consulting; hosting showcase opportunities.
Coordinate and facilitate programming for Jewish communal institutions driving innovation efforts from within (“intrapreneurs”). This includes working with key partners to design and implement innovation consulting services aligned with programmatic goals and developing future potential work within the Los Angeles, the Southern California region, and beyond. Key initiatives include facilitating Innovation Workshops and Fellowships to help Jewish professionals expand their capacity for “out of the box” thinking.
Design and manage opportunities to engage the Southern California community in innovative learning opportunities. Provide design and facilitation support for The Collaboratory, UpStart’s national gathering of social entrepreneurs and innovators in the Jewish Community. Support your regional hub engagement plan for current and alumni accelerator participants and local intrapreneurs via convenings, workshops, showcase events, and networking opportunities. Represent UpStart at community events.
Skills and attributes required:
You will have at least 5 years of work experience, and a passion for creating positive change in the way Jewish life is lived. You have excellent communication skills, and exhibit a high degree of professionalism, time management skills, and emotional intelligence.
You will have honed your skills in program design and facilitation, non-profit organization leadership, and project management. We hope that you have knowledge of entrepreneurial mindsets and practices such as design thinking and human-centered design.
We expect that you will be a team player who not only loves to imagine with others, but also hunkers down and make those ideas a reality. You have access to Jewish networks, and have an impressive understanding of the Los Angeles Jewish ecosystem.
