Deputy Director, Southern California Region
Working closely with, and reporting to the Managing Director, Southern California, the Deputy Director will serve as a critical contributor in leading the Southern California regional office to fundraising success. The Deputy Director will manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects (100 to 150) with a giving capacity of $100,000+; identify, cultivate, and solicit new high net worth individuals for the major donor program; support regional board and committee development; support special events in the region; and help expand UNICEF USA's presence throughout Southern California.
Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):
Work with the Managing Director to grow major individual gifts throughout the region
Develop and implement effective strategies to steward and cultivate major donors
Meet monthly in-person major gift meeting and solicitation goals
Recruit and develop successful board and committee members, and implement related projects
Manage and support special event opportunities which support UNICEF USA's strategic plan as major donor cultivation and stewardship tools
Represent the Southern California region and speak at select events, as appropriate
Serve as lead for implementation of special projects and campaigns and perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven years of relevant major gifts experience required; advanced degree preferred
Must have a proven success record in major gift fundraising securing 5- and 6-figure gifts as well volunteer committee management
Superior interpersonal and communication skills, along with excellent organizational skills
Excellent problem solving skills; ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill and present information
Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and have strong experience using a fundraising database
Keen attention to detail, flexibility in high-pressure situations and the willingness to assist with all tasks needed to ensure the success of small regional team
Ability to effectively lead internal and external meetings
Must possess a strong work ethic, and be a motivated, enthusiastic team player who embraces a fast pace environment as well as the mission and values of UNICEF USA
Working knowledge of the Southern California philanthropic community is preferred
Willingness to travel, domestic and international (occasional), and to work some evenings and/or weekends as necessary
