Job Description

A Place Called Home is seeking a Teen Services Associate

Reports to: Associate Director of Teen Services

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Hours: Full-Time                    

Salary:  $14.00/hour    

 

A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth center in South Central Los Angeles.  APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, and fitness opportunities.  As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them.  Our goal is to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active citizens capable of making positive change in the world in which they live.  (www.apch.org)

 

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Teen Services, the Teen Services Program Associate will provide program support to the Bridge to the future program and will assist with job readiness training, curriculum development and implementation, and tracking of ongoing teen programs, special events, and career opportunities. 

                                                                                                                                                               

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the coordination of all BTF programming and with the development, collection, and organization of associated forms and reports
  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of college related tours/field trips
  • Assist with the coordination and scheduling of guest speakers
  • Develop and implement job readiness training workshops, including field trips, special events, guest speakers, and assessments for the teen and young adult population to enhance workforce/college readiness and independent living skills
  • Develop partnerships with organizations to offer job placement for members.
  • Develop and maintain a database of educational and vocational opportunities and refer to members
  • Track department attendance
  • Participate in outreach efforts and conduct tours with local high schools
  • Support the internship program by providing training, evaluations, processing timesheets, and other tasks related to the internship program 
  • Assist BTF staff in planning and coordination of special events
  • Conduct ongoing research of career opportunities, fellowships/internships, and scholarships for members
  • Assist with assigned administrative duties and execute in a timely manner
  • Research and develop curriculum and workshops for teen members and families
  • Assist with the supervision of members during program hours, special events and field trips
  • Assist members with homework, research papers resumes/cover letters as needed
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for members
  • Attend all required program meetings

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Experience

Proficient in Excel preferred

Two years experience working with teen and young adult population

Two years working in an office environment

 

Physical and Mental Demands

        Able to work in dynamic, high noise level environment typical of a youth center

        Walking, standing, physical activity required on daily basis

        Lift up to 25 pounds regularly

        Speech and hearing within normal ranges; speech clarity sufficient for standard face to face and telephone communications
