Context: Plans, convenes, coordinates, and implements the strategies and activities of the Beyond Coal Campaign’s efforts to phase out coal and gas as part of a just and equitable transition towards a decarbonized economy in Texas. Coordinates with relevant Sierra Club staff and volunteers and other stakeholders. Pursues policies and programs that deliver timely significant greenhouse gas emissions reductions tied to Sierra Club’s overall goals to eliminate fossil fuels from the economy while contributing to an equitable shift to clean energy and a powerful climate justice movement.
Scope: The Campaign Representative is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the Beyond Coal Campaign’s climate and justice work in Texas with particular attention on coal plant retirements, stopping new gas plant proposals, increasing clean energy, utility policy, and advancing a just transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. In consultation with volunteers, partners, and staff, the Campaign Representative coordinates and guides the state team of staff and volunteers, ensuring successful implementation of campaign strategies to achieve campaign outcomes, alignment with regional and national goals, and robust collaboration across teams, campaigns, and the local Sierra Club Chapter. The Campaign Representative works with a team to guide the development of advocacy materials, conducts research, testifies, lobbies, and presents on the campaign’s priorities, and serves as a technical resource inside and outside Sierra Club. The Campaign Representative acts as a project manager and manages day-to-day operations of the campaign (as assigned) in Texas, including convening the state team, managing and stewarding resources, conducting regular planning, and developing a team culture of mutual accountability and support. The Campaign Representative also represents the Sierra Club externally to government officials, decision leaders, business and community leaders, the media and other key strategic partners and organizations. This may include representing the Campaign in negotiations and settlements in the assigned area as directed. The Campaign Representative supports fundraising efforts when appropriate, and takes appropriate action to ensure that program goals and objectives are met.
Heavier seasonal workloads may occur as a result of project deadlines, staff absences and vacancies, and during peak activity periods. Frequent weekend and/or evening work may be required.
Knowledge & Skills:
The salary for this position is from $59,000 up to $63,000 for salary region 2 (non-negotiable).
This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and the Progressive Workers Union.

This is a category 4 exempt position.
