The Director of Accounting / Controller directs the activities leading to the capture and recording of all financial transactional affairs of the Agency, prepares financial reports summarizing operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules for the guidance of management.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Delegation, coordination, execution and review of all work related to the Agency's transactions within the construct of appropriate internal controls and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), maintenance of fiscal records and preparation of financial reports.
  • Researches, develops and/or maintain reconciliations pertaining to most complicated Agency issues, and writes / approves resulting manual journal entries
  • Delegates work throughout the accounting team
  • Ensures accurate and timely recording of all transactional data through coordination, review and oversight
  • Prepares accurate and timely interim reporting of Agency operational results, as well as ad hoc reporting as requested for internal customers or required for compliance
  • Assists the CFO in preparation for the annual audit (first year; this position will be the lead on this engagement starting with year 2)
  • Review and posts all manual journal entries generated by staff to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies
  • Liaises with other departments on their accounting needs and / or accounting's needs of them, as well as serves on Agency committees
  • Works with CFO to evaluate current processes and improve or develop new processes that better suit information flow and processing as well as provide greater assurance through internal controls and segregation of duties
  • Oversees special projects within the accounting department at the direction or with the assistance of the CFO
  • Design internal audit program

The Director of Finance will be a proven leader with the following:


  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in accounting, with at least Five (5) years management experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; MBA and /or MACC preferred
  • CPA required (attainment within four years is required for incumbent not holding an active license at the time of hire)
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred, but not required
  • Proficient in GAAP and ability to research GAAP issues and standards at it relates to the Agency
  • Solid proficiency with intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, MS Office, including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. experience with Windows based accounting software packages, Windows environment and Internet use and the ability to teach knowledge in these areas (particularly Excel) to others
  • Must have a valid license, current insurance, a good driving record and pass a background check
