Summary of Position
Reporting to the Board of Directors of the Farmer Veteran Coalition, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization.
Offer guidance and vision to the organization, through partnership with its Board of Directors and its Strategic Plan.
Act as an effective spokesperson for the organization and the entire veteran to agriculture movement.
Foster teamwork and cooperation with the Board of Directors, the organization’s staff, and its network of state chapters.
Maintain critical strategic partnerships, including those with the USDA, the military, other federal departments, and major agricultural and military organizations.
Engender allegiance and goodwill towards the organization from its more than 10,000 veteran members.
Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its members, Board and funders.
Guide the work of the Chief Operating Officer and FVC staff to maximize the impact on veterans seeking help with their agricultural careers.
Guide the Development team with maintaining excellent relationships with current funders, responding to RFP’s for grant opportunities and identifying an adequate amount of new funding to support the mission and vision of FVC.
Guide the Communications team to raise FVC’s visibility and increase private and public awareness of its work.
In partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, oversee the annual operating budget and set organizational and budgetary priorities that are aligned with the mission and vision of FVC.
Shepherd the growth of FVC’s state chapters to channel our members’ desire to serve the mission of the organization.
Strong leadership abilities; capacity to inspire the members, supporters and staff of FVC.
Good communication skills; ability to tell the story of FVC in a compelling and memorable manner.
Strategic thinking; ability to keep the organization agile and competitive.
An understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing American agriculture.
Respect and empathy for America’s military veterans.
Ability to innovate and develop new, cutting-edge programming.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
The job is expected to be based out of FVC’s Davis, California office; consideration can be made for the right candidate.
This position regularly requires long hours.
Travel will be necessary, estimated to be around one week per month.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business or related field.
At least ten years of strong operational experience.
Proven track record of impactful leadership in the non-profit space.
Experience identifying sources of funding from foundations, corporations, investors, and/or individual donors, and demonstrated success securing those resources through relationship building.
Experience with grant management and writing.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master’s degree in agriculture, business or related field.
Military and/or agriculture background highly desired.
