Since 1900, the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Chicago (“JUF”) has aided the most vulnerable metropolitan Chicago residents of all ages and faiths through a network of more than 70 health and social service agencies. The JUF is the central fundraising arm of Chicago’s Jewish community, allocating more than $190 million annually to local Federation affiliates and agencies overseas, including in Israel. In 2018, more than $400 million in federal, state, and local funding expanded our ability to help many attain, maintain, and regain their well-being.
JUF is hiring a new Assistant Vice President for State Government Affairs (“AVP”). This person is first and foremost JUF’s voice and representative to the various branches of Illinois state government, including the General Assembly, Governor’s Office and State Administrative Agencies. The AVP should have knowledge of and relationships within the legislative, administrative and state agency landscape, as well as with the broad range of other partners and coalitions within the health and human services field. The AVP will be relied upon by JUF and JUF’s network of affiliated agencies (e.g. CJE Senior Life, JCC Chicago, JCFS Chicago, Sinai Health Systems and The ARK) to lead in developing and implementing strategies and tactics for working with all relevant governmental bodies in pursuit of JUF’s and the agencies’ policy priorities.
The AVP is a member of JUF’s Public Affairs Department, which has 10 members divided between two divisions: Government Affairs (AVP’s department) and the Jewish Community Relations Council (“JCRC”). The two divisions work on several related or complimentary issues and are expected to help leverage each other’s expertise in pursuit of their independent and related goals.
On behalf of issues of importance to the Jewish community, the Government Affairs team is a catalyst for change: building relationships with government and civic decision-makers from both parties, engaging the Jewish community to add their voices to the debate, troubleshooting within bureaucracies, and lobbying in Chicago, Springfield, and Washington, D.C.
