For nearly 100 years, the ACLU has been at the forefront of every major civil liberties fight in our country’s history. Whether reducing the prison and jail population, achieving full equality for the LGBTQ community, reducing immigration detention, or ending unjust laws that strip people of their fundamental right to vote due to criminal convictions, we take up the toughest civil liberties issues to defend all individuals from government abuse and overreach. With ACLU affiliate offices in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, we fight tirelessly to defend our rights in the courts, influence public policy, and empower communities to advance rights for all. We are a passionate, highly motivated group of lawyers, public policy experts, lobbyists, and fundraisers, and we’re looking for exceptional talent to join our team.
The ACLU of Illinois’ Women’s and Reproductive Rights Project seeks, through coordinated litigation, public education and legislative advocacy, to fight the stigma that attaches to reproductive health care, expand access to such care, and advance gender equality. We work in collaboration with local and national organizations as well as the ACLU’s national office and the ACLU’s nationwide network of state affiliates.
The ACLU of Illinois seeks an attorney with substantial legal ability for a full-time Staff Attorney position focused on expanding access to reproductive health care and advancing gender equity in Illinois. The attorney may, as needed, assist with other civil liberties and civil rights work in the office.
We invite applications from attorneys who have demonstrated a commitment to civil rights and civil liberties to play a key role in complex, innovative litigation and policy advocacy. Under the supervision of the Director of the Women’s and Reproductive Rights Project and other experienced lawyers, the Staff Attorney will work on developing and implementing advocacy strategies on a broad range of women’s and reproductive rights issues. While the Staff Attorney will be responsible for engaging in litigation and providing counsel around our strategic priority areas, they also will be expected to work closely with communications staff and policy advocates in support of our integrated advocacy model, which unites legal advocacy, public communications, and policy advocacy for maximum impact.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary will be in accordance with the ACLU salary scale. Excellent benefits include four weeks paid vacation; 100% employer-paid medical, vision, and dental insurance for staff and eligible dependents; a 403(b) retirement benefits plan with employer match; life insurance; and long-term disability insurance.

Applicants should send a resume, letter of interest, list of litigation experience, references, law school transcript, and legal writing samples to firstname.lastname@example.org and use the subject line: WRRP Staff Attorney. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
