Chicago Collegiate Assistant Principal Job Description


The Assistant Principal is a direct contributor to the school’s academic success, consistent and joyful college-going culture and partnership with families.

The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal in implementing the school’s instructional and cultural priorities to ensure we are on track to achieving our mission of 100% of our students graduating from a four-year college within six years of their high school graduation.

The Assistant Principal must embody Chicago Collegiate’s core values of Excellence, Pride, Courage, Grit and Zest.

Responsibilities: Be a contributing leader and partner in helping the Chicago Collegiate team to the academic and cultural outcomes which will ensure our students are on-track to achieving our mission.

Exemplify and demonstrate Excellence in a variety of areas, by:

  • Owning the overall responsibility for every student making dramatic achievement gains and that the school meets ambitious performance goals set by the Principal
  • Achieving dramatic improvement and success on an absolute scale with student academic performance
  • Supporting, monitoring, and sustaining the high standards of a rigorous school climate and a joyful, caring, calm achievement-oriented college-going school culture
  • Ensuring rigorous academic performance in every classroom every day
  • Ensuring smooth operation of all school operational system without excuses or exceptions
  • Teaching and leading professional development sessions throughout the year that drive significant student achievement gains

Exemplify and demonstrate Courage in a variety of areas, by:

  • Mediating and managing the sometimes conflicting demands of school constituencies
  • Ensuring that Chicago Collegiate fulfills its mission and ultimate vision that all students graduate from a four-year college of their choice within six years of high school graduation

Exemplify and demonstrate Pride in a variety of areas, by:

  • Supporting, and managing a cohort of teachers and other teacher leader positions as designated.
  • Supporting the professional development and growth of all teaching staff
  • Cultivating and sustaining positive relationships with families

Exemplify and demonstrate Grit in a variety of areas, by:

  • Contribute to the evaluation of academic achievement through detailed data analysis of student and teacher performance, ensuring strong student-focused decisions driven by data
  • As a leader by participating in supporting the school’s culture and instructional program on a daily basis

Exemplify and demonstrate Zest in a variety of areas, by:

  • Developing staff members in a way that ensures that everyone is maximally effective and driving towards our mission every day

Required qualifications:

  • Results-driven leader with demonstrated record of leading adult teams to success, including experience in and commitment to maintaining rigorous academic standards and building a joyful, no-excuses culture simultaneously
  • Outstanding teacher for low-income children of color who has demonstrated quantifiable and objective student performance gains that are stellar (4th-9th)
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build bridges with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Solutions-oriented strategic thinker who has experience overcoming complex organizational challenges in the face of challenging opposition
  • Humility and openness to feedback, a strong sense of ownership and personal responsibility, and desire to learn from mistakes
  • Demonstrated high levels of Chicago Collegiate’s core values of excellence, courage, grit, pride and zest
  • Professional with bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of educational experience with low-income students of color
  • Experience coaching and developing teachers towards dramatic academic gains in low-income communities
  • Unyielding belief in and zest for the school’s mission, purpose, philosophy, and performance


Compensation and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
