Senior Outreach Coordinator
Global Security Program
Union of Concerned Scientists
The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is an independent national nonprofit working to solve some of our planet’s most pressing environmental and safety problems. Our scientists and engineers develop and implement innovative, practical solutions to serious challenges—from combating global warming and developing sustainable ways to feed, power, and transport ourselves, to fighting misinformation, advancing racial equity, and reducing the threat of nuclear war.
For decades, the Global Security Program at UCS has brought a powerful combination of technical, political, communications, and organizing expertise to the existential threat to humanity posed by nuclear weapons. To help further this important work, we are seeking an experienced political organizer/campaigner and digital strategist skilled at developing and executing campaigns at the federal policy level that will inspire, motivate, educate, and engage UCS supporters, the public, and new partners/constituencies. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of Congress and working with the executive branch, as well as experience developing and executing successful, impactful digital strategies focused on policymakers and decisionmakers.
- Conceive, coordinate, and implement the program’s campaigns for sensible policies on nuclear weapons through supporter and grasstops engagement, coalition activities, and digital and media activities in target states
- Work with UCS communications staff and Global Security Program staff to develop and coordinate national and local/state digital outreach strategies and activities in support of overall campaigns, including web, social media, and email engagement
- Contribute to overall effective functioning of Global Security Program and UCS
Qualifications and Experience
This position requires a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in organizing political or issue campaigns, ideally at the federal policy level, with demonstrated knowledge and expertise in digital organizing/campaigning. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
May spend extended periods at computer terminal and regular overnight travel (e.g. an average of 3-5 days/month) is expected.
At UCS, comparable training and/or experience can be substituted for degrees when appropriate.
