Position Title: Kitchen Manager
Located in Casper, Wyoming, the Wyoming Food for Thought Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to Provide, Educate and Empower our community members in order to eradicate hunger through locally sourced and produced food, education, community partnerships and action.
The Kitchen Manager will report directly to the Executive Director, and will be responsible for all aspects related to management of the Good Food Hub kitchens, as well as food production with excess product at the Food for Thought Program Center and Urban Farm. The Kitchen Manager will also help create a culinary training program, train tenants at the Good Food Hub on ServSafe, and teach/facilitate workshops using local food to correspond with the mission of Wyoming Food for Thought Project’s local solution to hunger.
Good Food Hub Kitchen and Tenant Management:
safe food handling procedures
cleanliness and sanitation
cleaning and shared-wares supplies
consumables for Food for Thought and clients
standard operating procedures compliance
routine maintenance and equipment inspection
technical assistance to members or clients (regulatory compliance, business development) as well as deep cleaning, reporting any issues to management and/or health department, manage scheduling, and prepare facilities for special events.
Have a working knowledge of the Wyoming Food Freedom Act
Recruit new kitchen users/clients to the Good Food Hub
Coordinate scheduling, billing, and other administration of Good Food Hub Kitchens
Add value to produce grown at Food for Thought
Manage food rescue program
Work with area restaurants, food businesses, and producers to network the use and production of local food
Lead the creation of the culinary training program, oversee program once it is created, continue to develop program as GFH is up and running
Lead workshops at Program Center
Secure MOU’s with partners for Good Food Hub
Participate in and help with all Food for Thought events
Coordinate volunteer work days, train volunteers, coordinate additional groups seeking to volunteer, manage volunteer operations requirements.
Manage and train apprentices
Oversee all aspects of Culinary Training Program
Be the decider on matters related to the kitchen, and kitchen users
Work with Food for Thought staff to accommodate educational activities and tours for both youth and adults.
Participate in various educational programming and festivals, events as needed
Participate in "All Hands On Deck" activities, where all Food for Thought staff cooperate on a large project, event, educational program or volunteer days
Be prepared to lend a hand throughout the organization as needed
The ideal candidate will have the desire to work hard, work untraditional hours, and make a difference in the community
Experienced supervising staff and/or volunteers and working with diverse communities
Experienced teaching youth and/or adults
Interest and familiarity with issues relating to local food, food access, and sustainable agriculture
Experience creating and facilitating educational programs for youth and/or adults in a farm or garden setting
Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
The Kitchen Manager is expected to meet weekly with the Executive Director and communicate via email and phone as necessary.
This is a full-time, salaried position with paid time off and health insurance.
