Odyssey of the Mind is an international program that allows students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. For more than 30 years, Odyssey of the Mind has been teaching students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests.
Students learn how to identify challenges and to think creatively to solve those problems. They are free to express their ideas and suggestions without fear of criticism. The creative problem-solving process rewards thinking "outside of the box." Although conventional thinking has an important place in a well-rounded education, students need to learn how to think creatively and productively.
Not-for-profit, volunteer-run organizations administer Odyssey of the Mind's international program in each participating state and country. Massachusetts Odyssey of the Mind, or MA Odyssey, oversees the program in Massachusetts. MA Odyssey is a 501(c)3 organization that is run by a board of working professionals in a variety of fields across the state who volunteer our time because we believe in the importance of the program. Most of our board meetings are done via conference call, and we would be happy to consider an interested candidate who could not meet in person in the Boston area.
We are currently seeking a Membership Coordinator to join as a volunteer member of our board. The Membership coordinator is responsible for helping recruit new memberships, responding to all contacts seeking information and assisting with on-site information sessions for schools/groups as needed. Candidates interested in education/youth are encouraged to contact us (info@maodyssey.org) with interest or questions.
