Music and Arts Show Presenter

Museum of Science, Boston



Present Music and Art Shows for a variety of audiences, ensuring an exciting and entertaining performance for Museum patrons. Also at times, present pre-recorded educational shows as part of the scheduled lineup. Operate and occasionally trouble-shoot Planetarium equipment. Monitor audiences for problems and make judgments on appropriate methods for resolving problems, sometimes in collaboration with Security and Visitor Services staff.


  • Present 3-5 shows per evening on approximately 35 evenings annually – at least 2 shifts per month. Music and Art Shows are presented on Friday and Saturday evenings.
    • Often on school vacations, there are Music and Art Show in the late afternoon on weekdays or Sundays. These are opportunities for additional work, but not necessarily required.
  • Help staff an additional 2-4 evenings per year when the Planetarium hosts special events.
  • Interact with anywhere from 200 to 1,000 Museum visitors in a week.
  • Operate and sometimes trouble-shoot Planetarium equipment including: Full-dome projection system, laser projection system, sound system, lighting, computers, automation system, PA systems.
  • Manage audiences of more than 200 visitors before shows when in line and during shows.


This position is part-time, ~4 hours/week, at least 2 shifts per month, on Friday and Saturday evenings. Opportunities for additional shifts on weekdays and Sunday during high volume periods available.


Producer & Manager, Charles Hayden Planetarium.


  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year or more of experience interacting, handling, and directing the activity of the public, preferably a museum audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage an audience or large group including making announcements, answering questions, directing logistics, etc. This experience must be relevant but need not be in a planetarium or even in a theater.
  • Demonstrated comfort with computers sufficient to learn, operate and do simple troubleshooting on the planetarium's systems.


Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
