  Job Description

Purpose of the Position

To recognize, support and promote the awareness of dual role youth who are both students and caregivers within their families by: 1) organizing, facilitating AACY curriculum and documenting skills building/support groups, high school workshops and lunch and learn sessions within designated schools; 2) conducting home/family assessments; 3) participating in activities; and, 4) encouraging healthy lifestyles and environments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in school eligibility and self-referral process
  • Collaborates with CYP staff and school personnel with the identification and ongoing needs of youth caregivers and their families
  • Works with school liaison to prioritize, interview and schedule students for participation in Skills Building groups and Lunch and Learn sessions
  • Establishes and maintains clear effective confidential communication among all stakeholders
  • Obtains essential consents from parent/guardian
  • Documents work in student file and data management system and reports changes in youth or family circumstances
  • Utilizes Skills Building Curriculum, audio-visual equipment and interactivity to promote interest and attention among students
  • Uses resources and knowledge of chronic conditions and preventive measures from and translates that information into an understandable format for students and families from which to learn and benefit
  • Conducts home/family assessments and follow up visits
  • Identifies youth and family needs and makes then follows up with appropriate referrals and resources to empower and strengthen family unit
  • Disseminates educational and informational materials, including those for use on the website either independently or in collaboration with project partners
  • Analyzes results and offers solutions to make changes to improve outcomes to enhance and further CYP and/or AACY development
  • Contributes to research and publications pertinent to CYP
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles and methods for Skills Building and counseling theories using behavioral approach with an at risk population
  • Participates in media events, fund raising and other AACY opportunities
  • Promotes positive professional image of CYP and AACY with all.

 

Qualifications:

Masters degree in psychology, social work or as licensed mental health professional with demonstrated expertise in counseling of children and families required.  Evidence of active certification in specialty field; national or board certification in area of expertise preferred.  In addition:

  • Exhibits knowledge of other languages, particularly Spanish and Creole
  • Seeks resources to bridge communication gaps and language skills challenges as needed
  • Contributes to ongoing development of a culture of care and caring

  • Exemplifies positive attitude and contributes as team player
  • Provides culturally competent, age appropriate and effective communication to assist youth and families
  • Documents work to meet all reporting requirements
  • Stays current with changes in mental health information
  • Demonstrates understanding of the implications for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Uses sound and safe professional judgement in all areas of work
  • Drives youth as needed to various activities
  • Maintains flexibility in meeting the needs of the CYP program and its clients
  • Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintains them over time
  • Uses computer skills in multiple programs with participation in social media.

 

Work Schedule Location:

 Hours and work location are in accordance with project needs.  Primary office location is in Boca Raton.  Work sites include affiliated schools, camp or activity venues.  With approval may work from home.
