The Green and Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI) seeks an innovative and entrepreneurial individual to serve as its next Vice President for Communications.
Priorities of the Communications Department will include raising awareness of GHHI initiatives, thought leadership, policy advocacy, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement to break the link between unhealthy housing and unhealthy families by creating and advocating for healthy, safe and energy efficient homes. Our vision is of a world where no child’s potential is limited by unhealthy housing conditions.
As a member of the GHHI Executive Team, the Vice President for Communications will design and ensure implementation of communications, public affairs, marketing, and branding strategies to support the organizational mission, goals and objectives of GHHI. Candidates must possess exceptional leadership, management, communications skills, and a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment as they will be responsible for successfully leveraging the full-range of strategic communications principles and practices to advancing GHHI’s messages, vision, and programs.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Guide and support the CEO in her role as chief spokesperson for GHHI, serving as a co-strategist on messaging and outreach approach. Ensure that the CEO is well briefed and that her time spent in communications-related activities is highly productive. Support and position Executive Team as thought leaders, validators and advocates for the organization. Similarly guide and support GHHI staff and close-in partners in their capacity as formal GHHI representatives.
Build and manage an outstanding strategic communications and marketing program that incorporates all traditional and digital channels and media.
Advise GHHI CEO, Executive Team, Board of Directors, and staff in effective communications practices, protocols, and procedures
Raise GHHI’s public profile as the nation’s leading expert on creating and advocating for healthy, safe, and energy efficient homes.
In consultation with CEO and Director of Strategic Initiatives, develop and implement GHHI strategic communications plan. Create evaluation process to measure plan effectiveness.
Create messaging consistent with GHHI program goals and priorities to engage target audiences, including journalists, policy partners, funders, civic leaders, and elected officials in key markets.
Build and maintain relationships with key reporters, editors, and producers in print, television, online, and radio.
Develop and monitor branding style guidelines for GHHI content, collateral materials, and website to ensure consistency across all platforms. Develop and maintain strong visual identity and brand recognition for the organization.
Oversee planning and execution of all communications strategies and tactics, including media relations, digital communications, publications, social media, events, and internal communications.
Coordinate writing, design, and dissemination of communications products such as editorial calendar and digital content to support CEO, leadership team, and program staff.
Prepare and staff GHHI CEO and senior leaders for media interviews, speeches, and other public presentations.
Serve as on-the-record spokesperson.
Provide leadership and oversight to communications staff, consultants, and vendors.
Manage day-to-day communications for GHHI and manage a team that includes press, digital, and research.
Supervise work of Communications Manager and Communications Intern/Volunteer(s) as appropriate. Manage workflow, priorities, and implementation of communications staff schedule and resources.
Manage and recommend budgets for communications program in consultation with CEO and Director of Strategic Initiatives.
Identify and manage work of communications consultants and vendors. Coordinate with agencies and freelance designers and writers on projects as needed.
